This research is a journey that deals of materials conditions and sanitary in one of the most emblematic of Mexican prisons the second half of the nineteenth century, the Belem. Heiress to a time when the prison systems were seen as the best option to achieve the amendment of criminals; much of its existence was marked by a plethora of material shortages and hygiene abysmally that contrasted with the "duty to be" posed correctional systems.
