Abstract
Issues related to social, economic, cultural and environmental conditions have contributed to the expansion of leishmaniasis and sporotrichosis. We attempted to identify the perception of risk of transmission of these diseases and the factors that influence the disease process. Twenty-seven patients (seven with leishmaniasis and 20 with sporotrichosis) were interviewed. The majority has not identified any specific type of risk of transmission and attributed as the main factor to environmental contamination. Actions of health promotion should be integrated with other approaches that take into account the participation of individuals, social, cultural, geographical and political features.
