WEB BASED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND STUDENTS’ INTEREST AND SKILLS IN TLE – EIM: INPUT FOR EIM COMPETENCY BASED LEARNING MATERIAL

Rina M. Perez May 2026

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between the web-based learning environment and students’ interest and technical skills in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) – Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) as an input to the competency-based learning material for EIM. Specifically, it investigated the components of the web-based learning environment, the level of students’ interest in learning EIM and the level of technical skills after the exposure in online platform. The research employed a descriptive quantitative correlational design. The study involved 102 Grade 9 TLE students enrolled in EIM at San Pedro National High School, San Pedro, City of Sto. Tomas, Batangas, Philippines. Data were collected using a validated survey questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, were used to determine the level of the web-based learning environment, students’ interest, and technical skills, while inferential statistics were applied to determine the significant relationships among variables. The findings showed that the web-based learning environment supports students’ learning and has a significant relationship with their interest and selected technical skills, such as installation, safety practices, and troubleshooting. However, no significant relationship was found in the use of tools and materials. Therefore, hands-on training and supervised laboratory activities remain essential for the mastery of practical skills.
