BONIFACIO JR. LASTIMOSO GIANGAN April 2026

Abstract

This study determined the experiences of SHS mathematics teachers in preparing supplementary learning materials and assessed and validated the prepared supplementary learning materials in support of the self-learning modules. This study also designed a training activity in preparing and evaluating supplementary learning materials in senior high school mathematics specifically, General Mathematics and Statistics and Probability. The researcher utilized mixed method, quantitative and qualitative research design in gathering and analyzing data. Purposive sampling method was used in selecting 13 senior high school mathematics teachers in four districts of Makilala, Division of Cotabato. Majority of the participants had no proper trainings/seminar in preparing SLMs. Hence, SHS mathematics teachers need to attend more trainings and seminars in preparing and designing supplementary learning materials. Further, there was a total of 125 SLMs produced by the respondents and majority are learning activity sheets. The experiences that the respondents have encountered included the availability of the resources, seminar, trainings, and workshops in preparing supplementary learning materials. In addition, time constraints in the preparation of SLMs which were deemed useful in boosting learning among the students and a big help to the learners whose residence is too far from school and with no access to internet connection was identified as difficulty and realization of the respondents. Based on the evaluation conducted on the SLMs produced by the senior high school mathematics teachers, the materials were found to have passed the DepEd’s evaluation based on its guidelines for preparing and designing SLMs. However, there were some indicators particularly in terms of durability and adequacy of the parts of the supplementary learning materials that need to be improved to achieve quality and effective supplementary learning materials that distance learning modality. Hence, the Division office should provide more trainings and workshop particularly in the senior high school department to uplift the skills of the teachers in producing supplementary learning materials.
