Challenges Experienced by Indigenous People (IP) Learners and Their School Performance

This study was conducted to find the extent of poverty experienced by Indigenous people in Pinamula Integrated School and learners' school performance. It followed the descriptive-correlational research design. It was conducted in Pinamula Integrated School, Kibawe East District, Division of Bukidnon, SY 2023-2024. The respondents were the indigenous people learners studying in the said locale who were selected through Purposive Sampling. This study used a researcher-made survey questionnaire as the instrument to gather the needed data, which were analyzed using frequency count, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient. This study uncovered the following findings: The majority of respondents fell into the age range of 9 to 10 years old, female, with family monthly income below 5,000.00, parents had reached the elementary level of education, mothers are housewives, fathers are farmers, and receive assistance from the 4Ps program. There was a Very Large Extent of poverty experienced by indigenous people in Pinamula Integrated. The learners’ school performance in SY 2023-2024 was Fairly Satisfactory. There was a significant relationship between the demographic profile of respondents and the extent of poverty experienced in terms of highest educational attainment and financial assistance received from the government. There was a significant relationship between the extent of poverty experienced by indigenous people in terms of cultural poverty and the learners’ school performance. The findings and conclusions of this study warrant the following recommendations: Parents in this group are advised to take proactive measures to support their children's education. They may prioritize advocating for their children's rights and well-being. They are also advised to continue assisting with their child's education. They may prioritize education and investigate the government assistance programs that are available to reduce poverty and improve their family's overall welfare. Parents may actively foster and safeguard their cultural heritage inside the household.
