WELCOME TO NANOBIONICS A RESEARCH GROUP FROM THE INSTITUTE OF CHEMISTRY AT SÃO PAULO STATE UNIVERSITY

Nanobionics research group is focused on advance theoretical fundamentals and technological applications of electrons transfer, transport and charge storage in molecular and supramolecular structures. Specifically in terms of technological applications the acquired basic knowledge is used to progress mimetic-based technologies for medical diagnostic assays supported on highly sensitive and specific electroanalytic approaches. The disease analytical devices of interest are those based on earlier (cancer and degenerative diseases) and emergency (cardiopulmonary and infectious disease such as dengue, Zika, Malaria, etc.) diagnostics.

MESOSCOPIC ELECTROCHEMISTRY

Mesoscopic electrochemistry can be said to be a branch of physical electrochemistry at nanoscale and rigorously is a branch of mesoscopic physics in general, which is established as an interdisciplinary field that deals with systems of an intermediate crucial length scale. The scale of these systems can be described as being between the size of a quantity of atoms (such as a molecule) and of materials measuring micrometres. The lower limit can also be defined as being the size of individual atoms. At the micrometre level are bulk materials. Both mesoscopic and macroscopic objects contain a large number of atoms. Whereas average properties derived from its constituent materials describe macroscopic objects, as they usually obey the laws of classical mechanics, a mesoscopic object, by contrast, is affected by fluctuations around the average, and is subject to quantum mechanics.

MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS

One of the most sensitive and powerful means of doing molecular diagnostics is by the use of time-dependent electro-analytical techniques such as immittance spectroscopies optimized in frequency.

MOLECULAR ELECTRONICS

Within the context of mimetics, the Nanobionics group has created strategies to study biomolecular affinity and molecular binding kinetics in a chip.

QUANTUM ELECTROCHEMISTRY

Computer simulation methods constitute a powerful tool in understanding molecular systems, offering a connection between observed macroscopic phenomena and microscopic interaction through different timescales.

MOLECULAR SCALE CAPACITANCE

Molecular scale capacitance is an important phenomenon in electrochemistry and mesoscopic physics with important applications in diagnostics as demonstrated by our group.
