Abstract

The researcher focuses on mathematical operations competencies and the performance of pupils in Binubongan Elementary School in the Division of Gingoog City. In particular, this study sought to: (1) assess the level of pupils’ competence in fundamental math operations; (2) determine the pupils’ mathematics performance when categorized as outstanding, very satisfactory, satisfactory, fairly satisfactory, and did not meet expectations; (3) ascertain the significant relationship between the level of pupils’ competence in fundamental math operations and pupils’ mathematics performance. Further, the findings reveal that pupils’ competence in the fundamentals of Mathematics operations indicates “low or slight relationship” to pupils’ mathematics performance, as indicated in the significant value. Hence, Teachers as Instructional Leaders are recommended to enhance their teaching strategies in Mathematics to make learning more engaging and interesting. Additionally, they are also encouraged to conduct remedial classes in Math to address the needs of pupils with the least mastered competencies in the learning area.
