Abstract
This study evaluated the globalization and sustainability initiatives of Marinduque State University (MarSU) as the basis for developing an Internationalization Strategic Framework and Action Plan aligned with global standards and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A mixed-methods convergent parallel research design was employed involving 404 internal stakeholders, comprising 162 faculty members (72 instructors, 49 assistant professors, 38 associate professors, and 3 professors), 120 administrative personnel, and 122 student leaders. Quantitative data were gathered using a validated researcher-made survey, while qualitative data were obtained through open-ended responses and document analysis. Descriptive statistics, thematic analysis, and data triangulation were utilized in analyzing the data. Findings revealed that stakeholders demonstrated a strong conceptual understanding of globalization and sustainability, particularly regarding their concepts and principles (Mean = 4.20). However, understanding of internationalization procedures and standards was comparatively lower (Mean = 3.50), and the implementation of globalization and sustainability initiatives across institutional programs, projects, and activities remained only partially implemented (Mean = 2.86–2.92). These findings indicate that while MarSU possesses substantial institutional readiness for internationalization, stronger policies, stakeholder engagement, capacity-building initiatives, and implementation mechanisms are needed to translate conceptual awareness into sustained institutional practice. Based on these findings, an Internationalization Strategic Framework and Action Plan was developed to strengthen institutional governance, strategic partnerships, sustainability integration, and global engagement, providing a practical guide for advancing internationalization in MarSU and other regional higher education institutions pursuing sustainable and globally competitive development.
