Teachers’ Workload and the Level of Effectiveness of their Coping Mechanism

Abstract

This study was conducted to delve into the coping mechanism of teachers amidst the overwhelming stress in DepEd in Maramag II District, Division of Bukidnon, School Year (SY) 2023-2024. It applied the descriptive-correlation design.   It was conducted in the elementary schools of Maramag II District, Division of Bukidnon, during the school year 2023-2024. The respondents were all public-school teachers in Maramag II District, Division of Bukidnon, who were selected through Complete Enumeration. The researcher adapted the instrument of Cagmat (2010). Frequency count and percentage, Mean and standard deviation, and Pearson r Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient or Pearson r. This study revealed the following findings: most respondents were aged between 31 – 40 YO. Most were female; teacher 1 had 5-6 teaching loads and Php 11,000.00 – 15,000.00 net take-home pay.   Teachers in Maramag II District, Division of Bukidnon, School Year (SY) 2023-2024 were generally Very Highly Overloaded regarding classroom instruction, ancillary services, urgent reports, overwork, and people's attitudes in the workplace. Teachers in Maramag II District, Division of Bukidnon, School Year (SY) 2023-2024 were generally Very Highly in Control level of effectiveness of coping mechanism of teachers in terms of Positive self-care rituals, Mindfulness and relaxation techniques, Time management, Engaging in stress-reducing activities, and emotional booster. The test of a significant relationship between the level of teachers' workload and the level of effectiveness of coping mechanisms of teachers revealed that "Classroom Instruction" and "Attitudes of People in the Workplace" have a significant positive relationship with the level of effectiveness of coping mechanisms of teachers. This study recommends the following: School heads may acknowledge the commitment and diligent efforts of teachers, particularly those between the ages of 31 and 40, who are very likely to serve as the principal instructors for your children. Teachers may choose to prioritize self-care. Considering the arduous workload, teachers must emphasize self-care and well-being. School heads may offer assistance and provide necessary materials. Recognize and value the endeavors of educators in creating and executing efficient strategies for managing difficulties. Teachers may prioritize classroom instruction.   They may acknowledge the significance of exceptional classroom instruction in enhancing your ability to manage workload and stress.
