Abstract

This study focuses on the recognition of industry expertise as an academic qualification through the development of a micro-credential framework for higher education institutions in Lipa City, Batangas. It addresses the growing need to bridge the gap between traditional academic qualifications and practical industry experience, particularly in fields that require applied knowledge and real-world competencies. The study examines current institutional practices and policies in recognizing industry professionals for teaching roles, as well as the challenges and barriers that hinder the formal acknowledgment of professional experience in academic settings. Anchored in Experiential Learning Theory, Competency-Based Education, and micro-credentialing approaches, the research highlights the importance of valuing experiential knowledge and professional competencies as legitimate forms of qualification. A qualitative case study design is employed to explore the perceptions and experiences of key stakeholders, including administrators, faculty members, and industry professionals. Data are collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and insights related to the integration of industry expertise into higher education. The study aimed to develop a structured and practical micro-credential framework that can guide higher education institutions in systematically recognizing and integrating industry professionals into academic teaching roles. This framework is intended to support more flexible and inclusive qualification pathways, enhance curriculum relevance, and strengthen the connection between academic instruction and industry practices.
