Lorraine Liz S. Ortega

Lorraine Liz Salapong-Ortega, PhD, MAN, RN is a Registered Nurse, nurse educator, author, and researcher whose professional expertise bridges critical care, psychiatric nursing, and nursing leadership. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the Philippine Women’s University and holds a Master of Arts in Nursing major in Nursing Service Administration from Central Philippine University. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at St. Paul University of Iloilo and is licensed by the Professional Regulation Commission of the Philippines. Dr. Ortega currently serves as a Clinical Instructor at Central Philippine University, assigned in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, where she mentors nursing students in evidence-based and patient-centered clinical practice. In parallel with her critical care background, she is actively advancing her professional development in psychiatric nursing, reflecting her scholarly commitment to mental health promotion, psychological resilience, and holistic care frameworks for nurses. She is one of the authors of Cybersecurity Mental Health Resilience Capacity Building for Naval Defense Force (2025) and co-author of Nursing E-Cart: Nursing Exam Course Audit Review Textbook (CMO 15 Aligned Concepts and Lectures, 2025) and Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing Practice: Holistic Therapies in the Promotive, Preventive, Curative and Rehabilitative Aspects of Nursing Care (2025). Her published works demonstrate her dedication to strengthening mental health literacy, professional competency development, and integrative nursing education. Her research interests focus on nurses’ mental health practices, self-care behaviors, workplace environment, and the development of structured mental well- being program frameworks. Her doctoral dissertation examines the mediating relationships among mental health practices, self-care, and mental well-being of nurses, contributing to evidence-informed strategies that support workforce sustainability and professional resilience. Dr. Ortega is an active member of the Philippine Nurses Association and the Philippine Association of Nursing Authors for Clinical, Community, Education and Administration (PANACCEA). Through research, authorship, and clinical instruction, she advocates for psychiatric-informed nursing practice and institutional systems that prioritize nurses’ well-being as a foundation for quality patient care. Beyond academia, Dr. Ortega actively participates in community-based health initiatives that reflect her advocacy for holistic and psychiatric-informed nursing care. She served as an Activity Facilitator during the 2025 Global Partnership Local Impact: Advancing Health through Service and Learning interprofessional outreach program in Brgy. San Isidro, Jaro, Iloilo City. She has been involved in the Central Philippine University Alumni Medical Mission and Tree Growing Program (2025), multiple gift-giving and community outreach initiatives in Zarraga and Iloilo, and nursing-related health teaching and medical missions in Jaro. She also served as Resource Person for Paghilom: From Wounds to Scars, a reproductive health and maternal wellness education program in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo. These engagements demonstrate her commitment to community mental health promotion, health education, and compassionate service.
