Abstract
This study aimed to find out the effects of intensive reading approach on pupil’s reading comprehension in Tubigan Elementary School in Initao, Division of Misamis Oriental. Specifically, the study sought to describe the profile of the respondents in the study; to determine the performance of the Grade IV pupils in the pretest and posttest conducted to experimental and control group; discuss how the reading comprehension is enhanced through the intensive reading approach; disclose the significance difference between the performance of the Grade IV pupils exposed to intensive reading approach and to those who are in the traditional group; and discuss to what extent does intensive reading approach contribute to Grade IV pupils reading comprehension. This study applied the quasi-experimental research design. Pretest was administrated before the conduct of the study while posttest was given at the end of the study. The difference of the test scores was compared using t-test. The study revealed a significant difference on the performance of the respondents when intensive reading approach was applied considering the difference of the pre-test and post-test results. This indicates that the application of intensive reading had a positive influence on the learners reading comprehension because their reading comprehension has actually improved significantly.
