لقد تأثر الأدب الأوروبي في بداياته بالأدب اليوناني والروماني وكانت اللاتينية هي لغة الكتابة ولغة الكنيسة أيضا. غير أن هذه اللغة لم تكن مفهومة لدى جميع الشعوب الأوروبية، بل كانت لكل منطقة لهجتها الخاصة. كان لابد لهذه الشعوب أن يكون لها أدب يعبر عن آمالها بلغتها. وكان التروبادور البروفنسيون أول من نظم الشعر الغنائي بلهجة محلية هي اللغة الأوكسيتانية. يعد غيوم التاسع كونت بواتيه أول تروبادور نظم الشعر في بداية القرن الثاني عشر للميلاد في جنوب فرنسا. ويعد شعراء التروبادور أيضا، أول من نظم قصيدة الحب الكورتوازي في أوروبا. وهذا يتناقض صراحة مع عادات ومقومات المجتمع البروفنسي في القرون الوسطى، التي لا تسمح للرجل أن يتوسل إلى المرأة. إن الشعر الأوكسيتاني يرجع في نشأته إلى عوامل خارجية منها الأشعار العربية الأندلسية المختلفة باختلاف أشكالها وفنونها وأغراضها. وكان الجونغلير والمنشدون والخدام والتجار والرحّالة باختلاف أجناسهم الجسر الذي مر بواسطته أدب الأندلسيين من الجنوب إلى الشمال. لقد انتشر شعر التروبادور في أرجاء أوروبا الغربية إلى أن بدأ في الانحطاط في نهاية القرن الثالث عشر للميلاد بسبب الحرب الصليبية الألبيجية التي أعلنها البابا إنوسنت الثالث على سكان اللانكدوك في الجنوب. - The love poem in the Provençal poetry of the Troubadours: European literature in its beginnings was influenced by Greek and Roman literature and Latin was the language of writing and also the language of the Church. However, this language was not understood by all European peoples, rather, each region had its own dialect. These peoples had to have a literature expressing their hopes in their own language. The Provençal Troubadours was the first to compose lyric poetry in a local dialect, the Occitan language. Guillaume IX, Count of Poitiers, was the first Troubadour to compose poetry at the beginning of the twelfth century AD in southern France. The Troubadours poets were also considered the first to compose the courtly love poem in Europe. This explicitly contradicts the customs and traditions of medieval Provençal society, which did not allow a man to beg a woman. Occitan poetry is due in its creation to external factors, including the Andalusian poetry with their different forms, genres and themes. Jugglers, Minstrels and others were the bridge through which Andalusian literature passed from south to north.
