Abstract

This study aims to describe the occupational accidents mortality on the Southwest of Bahia State, Brazil, from 1997 to 2006. It’s a descriptive study with database records about fatal occupational accidents on Information Mortality System. Sociodemographic and work variables were evaluated. There were an increasing trend of fatal occupational accidents in Vitoria da Conquista (64,91%) and Jequie (13,16%) cities. Men had more accidents than women. These injuries were also common among those who studied for 4 to 7 years and who were pardo. More studies will be needed to quantify the real occupational accidents rates in each Bahia State’s Regions and identify its pecculiarites.
