This article focuses uponthe influence of material forms inthe formation of identity in individualsand groups. It argues that thephysical restrictions imposed to thebody by materiality are means thatcommunicate social and cultural rules.Through phenomenological archaeologyit argues that Cartesian dualismis rather a cultural construction ofWestern society than something thatis innate to human being.
