This is a transcript of a brief conversation between the author and the late Sir Ernst Gombrich on the subject of Josef Strzygowski as a human being based on his experiences as a student in Vienna. It has been supplemented by two obituaries and a pdf of the publications of Strzygowski’s First Institute of Art History at the University of Vienna.
