Abstract
The statistics of 1502 examinations by endoscopic procedures given 1.220 patients are reported in the order of frequency as follows: bronchoscopy, 508; esophagoscopy, 331; intubation for bronchography, 318; dilatation of the esophagus, 119; laryngoscopy (direct), 115, and gastroscopy, 111. The diagnosis most frequently found in these examinations are analyzed. The only case of perforation of the esophagus and death occurring in this series is described and analyzed; this case amounts to 0.066 per cent of the total series and .03 per cent of the gastroscopies. The other complications and accidents are also discussed briefly.
