Abstract

This article aims to analyze the music teaching profession, based on the partial veto to Law 11.769/2008 which establishes music as a mandatory content in basic education. The item vetoed by the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, after a request of the Ministry of Education, instituted that only a teacher with specific training and formation in the area could be responsible for the music content. The veto is contrary to the provisions of the Brazilian educational legislation which requires the diploma degree in teacher training courses. In this article some core aspects are exposed, still undefined or misunderstood, about the teaching profession and education of Art in the school context, which cross the debate about music education, expressed in the reasons for the presidential veto.
