James Achivida is a licensed professional teacher of English whose ikigai is on centered on teaching students English and develop their language skills through the teaching of English Language and Linguistics, Anglophone Literature, and Research subjects as well other Humanities and Social Sciences subjects. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education Major in English at Adamson University. He has completed his academic requirements and is undergoing his thesis in the Master of Arts degree in Literature & Language Instruction at Rizal Technological University. Currently, Sir James Achivida is a Senior Teacher in STI College Pasay - EDSA, serving as the Senior High School Research Coordinator. In that same institution, he also serves as the Founder and Club Moderator of The Writers’ Guild, a High School interest-based club for aspiring creative writers and campus journalists. Previously, he was the Coordinator for the Junior High School Unit of the High School Department of Fortridge Asian School in Taguig City. Sir James is a member of the International English Language Teachers Association - Philippines, where he actively engages and collaborates with his community of fellow English Language Teachers. In July 2024, he presented a master class on global Englishes for that same association. Sir James' experience in teaching English Language and Literature is complemented by his extensive exposure and experience as a writer. He was a Senior Staff Writer in The Adamson Chronicle, covering local news stories, feature articles, and creative fiction and non-fiction. He is also a poet/spoken word artist, winning 1st Runner Up in the 2016 Shaken Word Spoken Poetry Contest of British Council Philippines. He also served as a composer/songwriter, penning the theme song “This is a Perfect Christmas for the 2020 Virtual Cantata of Spurgeon School Foundation, Inc. entitled “A Perfect Christmas”. He has published creative work under DALIN, the official online journal of the Literature Educators Association of the Philippines (LEAP), and has published some articles at the Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal. His research interests include Literary Criticism, World/Global Englishes, English Language Teaching, Second Language Acquisition, Multilingualism, Translanguaging, and Sociolinguistics.
