We introduced the chlorosulfonic acid as a chlorinating reagent during our synthetic process which replace the hexafluorophosphate radical of the [Ru (bpy) 3] (PF6)2 complex with chloride, form hydrated Tris [Ru (bpy) 3] (Cl)2 complex. The corresponding complex is characterized with UV-Visible, IR, CV, 1 H and C 13 NMR spectroscopic technique. The synthesized hydrated ruthenium complex was then checked as an electrocatalyst for the reduction of carbon dioxide in a designed electrolytic cell.
