The Mediating Effect of General Self-Efficacy on Emotional Intelligence and Work-Related Quality of Life of Selected Employees in the Senate of the Philippines: Basis for an Enhanced Wellness Framework

Janine Elizabeth M. Nanca July 2026

Abstract

The mediating variable under analysis is general self-efficacy (GSE) and its influence on the connection of emotional intelligence (EI) and the work-related quality of life (WRQoL) among senate employees. This research was carried out on the rank-and-file staff of various departments and employment categories (455). It employed quantitative and non-experimental research design as they collected data using the Boston Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Work-Related Quality of Life Scale. The correlations between EI, GSE, and WRQoL were used to test the relationships using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results show that high emotional intelligence levels are associated with a higher quality of life in the workplace, and the general self-efficacy presented a high mediating factor between the two. Particularly, GSE enhances the resilience, coping processes, emotional regulation and control in the workplace amongst employees. The findings emphasize the idea that people with excellent emotional abilities and confidence in their potential are more likely to show high satisfaction in terms of job, better well-being, and balance between work and life. These findings highlight the need to roll out workplace wellness frameworks that develop emotional intelligence and self-efficacy, which will result in a more connected, healthier, and productive workers. Altogether, the research contributes to the field of organizational psychology through demonstrating how personal and emotional resources influence the experiences of the staff members in high-pressure conditions of the work in the public sector.
