Abstract
Learning how to express and respond to love languages plays a significant role in sustaining marital relationships, yet couples often face challenges in understanding and applying these concepts consistently. This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of married couples in practicing love languages, with a focus on how these expressions contribute to relational satisfaction and stability. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with six purposively selected participants and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that couples encounter challenges such as miscommunication, differing expectations, and inconsistent expressions of affection. In response, they employ adaptive strategies including consistent verbal affirmations, acts of service, quality time, physical touch, and thoughtful gestures to maintain emotional intimacy and mutual understanding. The study concludes that deliberate and mindful practice of love languages is essential for sustaining marital bonds. It recommends that couples cultivate awareness of each other’s emotional needs and adopt intentional strategies to strengthen their relationship, while also offering insights for counselors and practitioners supporting marital well-being.
