Abstract
This qualitative multiple-case study examined the experiences and ways of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance lesson planning across all five cases of English teachers through in-depth interviews, with data triangulation achieved by interviewing individuals closely related to the participants. The thematic analysis yielded five emergent themes regarding English teachers' experiences with AI, namely: AI-enhanced efficiency, human-centered revision, precision in prompting, professional growth and discovery, and ethical use challenges. The emergent themes that English teachers navigate in their experiences include collaborating for quality, maximizing AI for efficiency, strategically tailoring prompts, learning with professional support, and balancing AI with reflection. The five cases exhibited both similarities and differences in their experiences of using AI. Moreover, in navigating their experiences, all cases shared a focus on collaborating for quality and differed in how they maximized AI for efficiency, strategically tailored prompts, learned with professional support, and balanced AI with reflection. The results revealed that teachers remain at the forefront of AI adoption, and further showed that their role cannot be diminished even as AI tools become more advanced. These insights underscore the importance of integrating AI into teacher education and training programs to equip teachers with both technical competence and ethical awareness for the responsible use of AI in education.
