Abstract
This research aimed to develop an emergency educational leadership scale for school heads. It used the exploratory sequential mixed method research design and underwent qualitative and quantitative phases. This study involved a total of 112 school heads from the division of Sarangani, Philippines. Validated interview guide and scale were used to gather the data. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, descriptive statistics, Cronbach’s alpha and exploratory factor analysis. The initial results yielded six (6) themes which are emergency educational planning and delegation, emergency educational implementation, emergency educational communication and monitoring, emergency educational motivation and democratic leadership style, emergency educational professional development and emergency educational accountability and transparency. These identified components and their respective items were subjected to tests of content validation, internal consistency and construct validity. The final pool of one hundred nine (109) items was found to exhibit a very strong internal consistency and loaded on five (5) components based on the educational emergency leadership components set for the scale. This study demonstrates that the emergency educational scale is a reliable and valid tool for evaluating the educational leadership of school heads during emergencies. The result of this study provides a school emergency plan that addresses potential crises.
