Research Continuance and Mobility of Scholarly Works in Science Education: Thematic Inferences to the Pedagogy

Abstract

This research investigated the research continuance and mobility of scholarly works in science education; its push and pull factors in terms of presentation, dissemination and utilization; the thematic inferences derived from the research continuance and mobility of scholarly works; and the influence of research continuance and mobility to the pedagogy of science and technology. It utilized a narrative research design. The study involved 17 participants who are graduates of Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education in Southern Luzon State University in Lucban, Quezon School Year 2012-2020. An interview served as the primary instrument of the study. The data was interpreted guided by the thematic analysis framework of Braun and Clarke (2006). Findings revealed that there were 65% of the participants were able to present it in various research conferences and utilized it, and 24% of them were able to published it. The push factors identified on the research continuance and mobility of scholarly works in science education were the utilizing social media for research dissemination, various support, usability of research, topic of interest, improvement of curriculum, opportunities, inspiration of the study, and self-motivation and determination. On the other hand, the pull factors on research continuance and mobility of scholarly works in science education were the personal factors, accessibility to publication, research factors, time constraints, social factors, availability of transportation, poor internet connection, institution factors, revision in the curriculum, and access to beneficiaries. The thematic inferences derived from the research continuance and mobility of scholarly works in science education involved personal, school and community implications. The influence of the pedagogy of science and technology in research continuance and mobility of scholarly works in science education were serving as reference, improves various discipline, technological advancement, and curriculum enhancement. These findings led the researcher to propose a research continuance and mobility framework to promote the utilization and dissemination of scholarly works in science education.
