Abstract
This study explores how educational institutions in the Philippines address the challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in maintaining academic integrity. Using qualitative document analysis, purposively selected institutional policies, guidelines, and ethical frameworks were examined to identify prevailing approaches to plagiarism, authorship, and broader ethical concerns in AI-assisted academic work. Findings reveal that institutions are adopting a multi-layered strategy that articulates clear expectations for responsible AI use, regulates AI integration through disclosure and citation requirements, establishes governance mechanisms, and promotes ethical practices emphasizing fairness, transparency, and accountability. Plagiarism policies have been extended to include AI-generated content, while authorship guidelines stress human accountability and proper attribution. Ethical concerns highlighted include equity of access, academic honesty, data privacy, bias, and inconsistent policy enforcement. These results underscore the need for comprehensive, context-specific AI governance frameworks that balance technological innovation with student accountability and learning integrity. The study contributes to understanding institutional responses to AI in higher education and provides insights for developing effective AI-related academic integrity policies.
