Abstract
The educational system has undergone significant transformations due to advancements in technology. Interactive and technology-enhanced approaches have significantly influenced it. Multimedia, which encompasses a combination of text, graphics, sound, animation and video, is being employed in a variety of disciplines, including education. The integration of multimedia enables interactive, dynamic, and engaging delivery of content. In the Philippines, Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies) follows a traditional teaching approach which involves teacher-led discussions, non-digital materials, and traditional tests. In recent years, students’ performance in Araling Panlipunan assessments has continued to decline, highlighting the need to explore effective instructional methods and materials that can enhance teaching and students’ test score performance in Araling Panlipunan. This research study aimed to explore the utilization of multimedia in teaching Araling Panlipunan to Grade 8 students towards test score performance. Concurrent with the aim of this research study, it presents a proposed multimedia platform and materials that can be utilized to improve the performance in teaching Araling Panlipunan to Grade 8 students towards test scores. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed in this study using a pre-test and post-test that consisted of 65 Grade 8 students at Trece Martires City National High School Sunshine Ville Extension. The findings of this study reveal that there is a significant improvement in test scores of Grade 8 students in terms of content accuracy, relevant to learning objectives, engagement and interactivity, ease of use, and visual and audio quality. The findings indicate that technology-enhanced instruction and multimedia tools are most effective for students considering the accuracy of content and relevance to learning objectives. Multimedia-enhanced materials with accurate and complete content have influenced the performance of students, including the alignment of these materials’ learning objectives to the curriculum in Araling Panlipunan. It is a critical component in assessing the quality and effectiveness of instructional materials, including multimedia-based resources. Additionally, the results indicate the importance of ease of use, visual, and audio quality that allow students to navigate multimedia materials easily. The utilization of multimedia has improved the students’ interest and understanding of topics. In addition, multimedia improved the involvement of students in class discussions with an engaging and interactive learning environment. Multimedia integration caters to different learning styles and makes the lessons engaging and accessible. It has a significant impact on the teaching and learning process in this subject matter.
