{"abstract":"Bullying in secondary schools, both internationally and locally, poses potential damage to students' personal lives, academic performance, and school metrics such as enrollment, drop-out, and transfer rates. This study investigated the proportion and types of bullying in public secondary schools in the Division of Southern Leyte, the reasons victims are bullied, and the outcomes on students' class attendance, tardiness, academic performance, and school enrollment, drop-out, and transfer rates. The findings indicated that most respondents reported experiencing bullying in schools, with peer bullying and social bullying being the most frequent types. Victims cited economic status, family background, physical defects, and intellectual capacity as reasons for being bullied. Interestingly, despite being bullied, respondents' class attendance and academic performance were not significantly affected, and schools reported continued increases in enrollment rates with no records of students dropping out or transferring due to bullying. Despite these findings, an evidence-based model for preventing school bullying is recommended for all secondary schools in the Division of Southern Leyte.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Jaime Leon Cardona","Myra Cardona","Joshua Cardona"],"date":"2023-01-27","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.7576453","id":985,"issue":11,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"6d14c057d9e68902936f440f7f2e059749c6575f664fbd60b8d07fe8bc99f66f","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Understanding the Complexities of Bullying Towards Developing an Evidence-Based Model","volume":6}
