{"abstract":"This quasi-experimental study evaluated the usefulness and effectiveness of the center-based learning approach (CBLA) in teaching science subjects to junior high school students, comparing it with the conventional approach. The study also explored junior high school science teachers' perceptions of CBLA's effectiveness based on the Proven Effectiveness Framework (PEF). The research involved 60 Grade 10 students from two sections of San Vicente National High School. The assessment test, consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions, covered Grade 10 science curriculum competencies, including topics on volcanoes, earthquakes, epicenters, and mountain ranges. Findings revealed a significant difference in academic performance: the experimental group, exposed to CBLA, achieved a mean score of 47.10 with a standard deviation of 4.87 and a p-value of 0.000. The control group, using the conventional approach, had a posttest mean score of 30.05, resulting in a highly significant difference, and a mastery level of 60.23. These results indicate that the center-based learning approach outperformed the conventional approach in enhancing students' academic performance in science subjects at the junior high school level, specifically in Grade 10.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Jeffry Saro","Jimboy Francisco","Christina Larase","Mary Kris Malbasias","Richel Andres","Anthony Mato"],"date":"2023-01-01","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.7497816","id":919,"issue":7,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"807adef8263959172e2a5e5b52f79204b9699e7d004b81511a2d065bccf40c7b","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"The Usefulness and Efficacy of the Center-Based Learning Approach in the Classroom for Teaching Science Subjects on the Students’ Academic Performance: A Quasi-Experimental Study","volume":6}
