{"abstract":"This study determined the effect of computer-aided lessons on the performance of high school sophomore students in selected biology topics at Baras National High School. The selected topics—Cell, Reproduction, Life Energy, and Organ—were based on the least scored correct responses in a Division Achievement Test. A pre-test, developed and pilot-tested with 50 third-year students, was used as both pre-test and post-test. The study utilized Department of Education-issued Computer-Aided Instruction (CAI) in Biology. Two sections of 45 second-year students each were selected via purposive sampling: one control group received traditional instruction, while the other used CAI. Pre-tests were administered to both groups, followed by post-tests after instruction. Statistical analysis revealed that students taught traditionally had an average raw score of 9.04 (numerical value 75, coefficient of variation 36.28), indicating poor performance. Students taught with computer-aided lessons had an average raw score of 8.67 (equivalent score 75, coefficient of variation 28.49), also indicating poor performance. Students performed best in Life Energy, followed by Organ System, then Cell Structure, and least in Reproduction. For the topic Organ System, an F-value of 17.971 with a p-value of 0.000 (less than 0.05) led to the rejection of the null hypothesis, indicating a significant difference in performance between students exposed to computer-aided lessons and those taught using traditional methods. The study's results were used to develop enhanced computer-aided instructional activities in Biology.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Mar Ocampo"],"date":"2022-12-30","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.7495013","id":916,"issue":7,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"6537658060b200082b3429c389f6624280282f943f392f86f01f44e93ded889e","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"The Effect of Computer-Aided Lesson on the Performance of High School Sophomore Students in Selected Topics Biology","volume":6}
