{"abstract":"The Philippine government's Executive Order No. 174 (s. 2022) established the Expanded Career Progression System for Public School Teachers to institutionalize merit- and competency-based advancement. This quantitative descriptive-correlational study assessed the relationship between teachers’ awareness of this system and their professional development and career advancement in Jagna District, Bohol, Philippines, during School Year 2024–2025. The research involved 16 school heads and 197 public elementary teachers selected through total enumeration. Data were gathered using a modified, validated survey questionnaire and analyzed using percentages, weighted means, the Chi-square test of independence, and simple linear regression, with data normality examined using the Shapiro–Wilk test. Findings showed respondents had complete awareness of the system (WM = 4.26), and perceptions of professional development (WM = 3.61) and career advancement (WM = 3.61) were very high. Chi-square analysis revealed a significant association between teachers’ career advancement and their position (p = 0.001), but not with sex, age, highest educational attainment, or teaching experience. Regression analysis indicated that awareness of the system significantly predicted professional development (β = 0.482, p < .001, R² = 0.232) and career advancement (β = 0.412, p < .001, R² = 0.170). These results suggest a positive association between teachers’ awareness of a structured career progression framework and their professional development and career advancement in the Philippine public-school context. The study recommends operationalizing EO 174 through clear implementation guidelines, sustained needs-based training, enabling school-level conditions, and longitudinal research.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Aiza Galamiton","Leandro Torreon","Jimmy Bucar","Junie Tumampos"],"date":"2026-07-31","doi":"10.70838/pemj.600901","id":8858,"issue":9,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"9b92c53524a5c4abdf4035a24c8765eb094eb539faf190eb46e0b5895c33d214","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Expanded Career Progression System as a Predictor of Teachers’ Professional Development and Career Advancement in Public Elementary Schools","volume":60}
