{"abstract":"This descriptive-correlational study assessed the competence of 32 Kindergarten Teachers from Asingan Districts I and II, Pangasinan Schools Division II, DepEd Region I, in identifying signs of learning difficulties among kindergarten pupils during SY 2025-2026. The study evaluated proficiency across five domains: physical, emotional, psychological, intellectual, and academic. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire checklist and analyzed with SPSS version 17. Respondent teachers were typically middle-aged, female, held a Master of Arts in Education, and had 10 or more years of teaching experience. Their overall competence in recognizing learning difficulties was rated \"Very Competent,\" with a grand overall weighted mean of 4.581. They received the highest rating in the \"physical learning difficulties domain\" and the lowest in the \"psychological learning difficulties domain,\" both still equivalent to \"very competent.\" No significant differences were found in competence levels across profile characteristics, except in the psychological domain at the highest educational achievement level. No correlation was identified between competence levels and any profile characteristics. It is recommended that kindergarten teachers enhance their educational credentials, maintain their \"very competent\" status through D/SLAC sessions, and that further research be conducted on learning challenges and additional variables.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Alyssa Jane Diosay","Lelia Meimban"],"date":"2026-07-09","doi":"10.70838/pemj.590804","id":8426,"issue":8,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"9b2d7a13283d46fd4d8c75b99af4acf79663535ad11ea40ba2708f6535210302","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Competence of Teachers in Identifying Signs of Learning Difficulties Among Kindergarten Pupils","volume":59}
