{"abstract":"This study explored the lived experiences of ten licensed professional teachers implementing the standardized 45-minute instructional period of the MATATAG Curriculum in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA) schools in Sarangani Province, Philippines. Using a qualitative phenomenological research design and Colaizzi's method for data analysis from semi-structured face-to-face interviews, the study found that the 45-minute period significantly influenced instructional pacing, classroom interaction, learner engagement, and teachers' ability to provide differentiated instruction. Teachers identified challenges such as reduced opportunities for experiential learning, collaborative activities, in-depth discussions, and individualized learner support due to compressed time. Despite these constraints, teachers demonstrated pedagogical adaptability through strategic lesson planning, prioritization of essential learning competencies, technology integration, and pre-class learning strategies, enabling them to maintain instructional continuity. The study revealed that the 45-minute instructional period acted as both a pedagogical constraint and a catalyst for instructional innovation. The findings underscore the importance of context-responsive, learner-centered, and flexible approaches in geographically disadvantaged settings. Recommendations include strengthening teacher professional development, enhancing instructional flexibility, and improving access to digital and alternative learning resources in GIDA schools.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Lhynelle Fe Felix","Francisco Espinosa"],"date":"2026-07-08","doi":"10.70838/pemj.590604","id":8406,"issue":6,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"fc06b119e6ea3aff9d272637f0365e91b36c756284f0f23802f61cf0ad31367b","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"The Time Crunch: Teachers’ Challenges on Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum in the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area Schools","volume":59}
