{"abstract":"This phenomenological-qualitative study investigated the learning challenges and opportunities experienced by College of Education students at Mindanao State University – Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, Philippines, during modular distance learning amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling, and data were gathered through an Interview Guide, with recorded conversations transcribed and analyzed thematically. Common learning challenges included poor/unstable internet connection, difficulty understanding lessons comprehensively, time management issues, financial constraints, impacts on students’ well-being, and insufficient learning resources. Conversely, common learning opportunities involved becoming responsible and independent learners, developing digital literacy, learning from home, enhancing writing, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills, and valuing time. Students at MSU-TCTO faced several learning challenges that affected their time, health, money, and overall learning, while learning opportunities positively enhanced their skills and potential.
