{"abstract":"Students with learning difficulties often face significant academic and social barriers, placing them at high risk of being permanently left behind within traditional educational frameworks. This study was conducted to explore teachers’ experiences and perspectives on identifying and addressing these learning difficulties in a classroom setting. The primary objective was to understand how educators navigate the complexities of student passivity and the instructional strategies required to foster an inclusive learning environment. Using a qualitative descriptive research design, the study interviewed five (5) purposively selected teachers through criterion sampling to ensure a depth of expertise in diverse classroom management. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, which revealed several critical insights. It was found that teachers primarily rely on continuous classroom observation and informal assessment to detect learning gaps in real-time. Furthermore, the results indicated that teacher readiness is largely shaped by years of classroom experience rather than formal professional training alone, pointing to a persistent theory-practice gap in educator preparation. Teachers respond to these challenges through a cyclical process of adaptive strategies, including instructional scaffolding, differentiation, and constant responsiveness. On the student side, the study revealed that those with difficulties exhibit reduced participation and a heavy reliance on peers as a self-protective mechanism. The study concludes that effective teaching in this context operates as a dynamic cycle of observation and support. Future research should consider multiple regression analysis to examine how teacher experience and training predict student engagement, as well as exploratory factor analysis to develop validated instruments based on the emergent themes identified in this work.","abstract_source":"original","authors":["Niko Bajan","Jessica Rebanal","Ric Jan Dalde","Stella Krystalline Dalid","Edward Ryan Gulam"],"date":"2026-06-08","doi":"10.70838/pemj.570801","id":8066,"issue":8,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"42778373745cbb4af663214162d5e29aeb65831cfb7a6dacbaceabb15b7fa82c","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Left Behind in Plain Sight: Teachers’ Perspectives on Structure, Support, Responsiveness, and Learning Conditions in Addressing Learning Difficulties","volume":57}
