{"abstract":"This mixed-method study investigated the influence of social media on the cultural awareness of 80 junior high school students in Gumaca, Quezon, selected via simple random sampling. The respondents' profiles showed that 51% were 14-15 years old, 55% were female, and 94% used Facebook. Grades 7, 8, 9, and 10 each comprised 25% of the respondents. The study found that social media influenced cultural awareness across several dimensions, with average means interpreted as 'Agree': exposure to diverse cultures (4.17), preservation of local cultures (4.04), connectivity to foreign cultures (4.07), and cultural misinformation (4.00). Qualitative results highlighted cultural learning and exchange, and Filipino cultural awareness as frequent experiences. Kruskal Wallis H-test results indicated no significant difference in perceived influence based on age and grade level, but a significant difference based on sex. It is recommended that the local government and residents of Gumaca utilize social media for local culture preservation, and future research should consider a larger population and additional variables.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Mark Ronald Contrata","Maria Celerina Oreta","Marites Tañada","Gil Segui"],"date":"2026-06-03","doi":"10.70838/pemj.570602","id":8031,"issue":6,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"192ebc871f615a591e44ecee618029e1da36d671c186fd736deabba334214253","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Influence of Social Media on the Cultural Awareness of the Selected Junior High School Students in Gumaca, Quezon","volume":57}
