{"abstract":"Fast food, characterized by quick preparation and affordability, has become a staple in modern lifestyles, especially among young people. However, frequent consumption has been linked to health concerns such as weight gain and dietary imbalance. This study examines the perceived health effects of frequent fast-food consumption among Senior High School students at Saint Mary’s University, with attention to socio-demographic variables including sex, residence, height, weight, BMI, and household income. Using a descriptive-comparative design, data were gathered through a survey questionnaire administered to 197 respondents. Findings revealed that most respondents were female, urban residents, and within the normal BMI range. Students acknowledged the convenience and accessibility of fast food but emphasized moderation and balance with healthier options such as home-cooked meals. Statistical tests showed no significant differences in fast-food consumption when grouped according to socio-demographic factors, suggesting that physical or economic characteristics do not strongly determine consumption. Instead, behavioral and environmental influences, including taste, cravings, affordability, and timesaving, were identified as the primary drivers of intake. The study highlights the need for health interventions focusing on behavioral and lifestyle modifications rather than targeting specific demographic groups. It suggests that promoting awareness of healthier food choices, addressing cravings, and providing alternatives to fast food may help encourage better eating habits among students. While the study provides valuable insights, generalizability may be limited as results are based on a single institution.","abstract_source":"original","authors":["Jianina Raphaelle Bareng","Ciero Calingayan","Gideon Jagto","Diana Joy Nieva","Yuanne Stephanie Portilla","John Carlo Armando","Kristel Joy Dapiawen","Chery-Ann Gorospe"],"date":"2026-04-05","doi":"10.70838/pemj.540401","id":7508,"issue":4,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"d1039e2751f0e865851e68423e2ccd4b4b8664f17711f6baf6962e3ee428c258","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Assessing the Perceived Effects of Frequent Fast-Food Consumption on Students’ Health","volume":54}
