{"abstract":"Conducted at Pajo National High School, Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City, this study assessed whether contextualization and localization of lessons would be effective in teaching Grade 11 Understanding Society, Culture and Politics among senior high school students. A total of 60 Grade 11 students enrolled in the General Academic Subject (GAS) track were divided into two classes: 30 students who underwent contextualization and localization of lessons and 30 students who received no intervention. Anchored in the context-based REACT Strategy and the use of locally available materials, the study utilized purposive, stratified, and random sampling techniques. Data collection included questionnaires, interviews, and observations, gathering both qualitative and quantitative data. Pre-test and post-test results analyzed using repeated measures of ANOVA revealed that the chapter lesson on Becoming a Member of Society and its sub-topics were significant, yielding an elevated value of 30.07 post test mean gain for learners receiving contextualization and localization over the accumulated value of 17.70 post test mean gain for those without intervention. These results show that students learn better and obtain good academic scores and performance when lessons are contextualized and localized. Based on these findings, the study recommends integrating this research across other disciplines, improvising Social Science lesson plans embedding contextualization and localization, and utilizing locally available materials to help ignite learners' interest and understanding.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Earl Adrian Cejas"],"date":"2022-09-20","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.7094675","id":611,"issue":5,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"bdda19bb2ab0d6a0193f66ebeffa46fd99099ae82e7c0dd6b82e86ae476650be","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Localized Lessons: Its Effectiveness in Teaching Grade 11 – Understanding Culture, Society and Politics","volume":4}
