{"abstract":"This study investigated the effects of social media on coping with academic stress among 100 selected junior high students in a private school in Gumaca, Quezon, using a descriptive research method and proportionate random sampling. The respondents' profiles showed most were 15 years old, female, and in tenth grade, with YouTube being the most used social media for studying past and current events. Findings indicated that respondents generally agreed on the effects of social media in coping with academic stress across emotional aspects (average mean 4.12), mental health (average mean 3.93), and social connectedness (average mean 3.94). Kruskal Wallis H-test results revealed no significant difference in perceived effects when respondents were grouped by age, sex, or type of social media used. However, a significant difference was found when grouped by grade level. Recommendations include implementing school programs for social media in promoting mental health, parental collaboration, teacher-led awareness, student engagement with mental health resources, and future research on long-term impacts.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Jessaly Mai Albuero","Maria Celerina Oreta","Melchor Espiritu","Rosemarie Alfarero"],"date":"2025-05-19","doi":"10.70838/pemj.380110","id":5262,"issue":1,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"6e6a8662c3b4df41069691221450cd26173991c27b527e9b2e61e2937f17e844","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Effects of Social Media in Coping with Academic Stress of the Selected Students in a Private School in Gumaca, Quezon","volume":38}
