{"abstract":"This study examined the significant relationship between the leadership style of school heads and teachers’ work stress levels. Using a descriptive method of analysis, quantitative data were gathered via a closed-ended researcher-modified survey questionnaire from 232 elementary and secondary teachers in Sta. Cruz District, Sta. Cruz, Zambales. Statistical tools included frequency count, percentage, weighted mean, and Pearson product-moment correlation with an alpha of 5%. Results showed that most teachers were female, aged 31-40, had 1 to 10 years in service, occupied the Teacher I position, and had master’s degrees, while only a few finished doctorates. Teachers experienced moderate stress at work. Furthermore, most respondents strongly agreed that school heads were authoritative, half agreed they were democratic or participative, and most strongly agreed they were laissez-faire/delegative leaders. Gender and length of service had no significant variations in work stress levels, but age, highest educational attainment, and position considerably varied with work stress. Finally, an increased authoritative leadership style contributed to a higher level of work stress, whereas democratic/participative and laissez-faire/delegative leadership contributed slightly lower work stress. The study proved that the leadership style of the school head—authoritative, democratic/participative, or laissez-faire/delegative—has a significant relationship to the level of work stress.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Rowena Mendez"],"date":"2022-08-21","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.7013134","id":521,"issue":9,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"e1adf37a5edc8fa208e8bc263a195af17aa07f8a5da1bd1926ea11bd1177ef20","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Leadership Style of School Heads and Its Moderating Impact on Work Stress of Teachers in a District","volume":3}
