{"abstract":"With educational institutions shifting to home-based self-learning modules during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns, parents were tasked to act as home facilitators. This study focused on parents' involvement in the learning of their children using self-learning modules in English, Mathematics, Science, and Filipino in the new normal, the children's academic performance across these four subject areas, and the relationships and differences between these variables. Employing a descriptive-cross sectional research design, the study was conducted with the parents of Grade VI pupils of MSU-TCTO ILS Mainstream Curriculum. Findings revealed that parents were oftentimes involved in the learning of their children using self-learning modules in Science, English, Mathematics, and Filipino, and the pupils obtained a very satisfactory level of academic performance in the four subject areas. There was no significant relationship between the extent of parents' involvement using self-learning modules along the four variables and the academic performance of their children, nor was there a significant difference in the extent of parents' involvement along the variables tested. It is concluded that parents are highly involved active home facilitators who invest time and effort to assist, guide, monitor, and motivate their children, but not essentially in answering modules, as pupils are capable of completing the tasks as evident in their high academic performance. It is further concluded that parental involvement is not an index on pupils' high academic performance.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Qursheeda Jakaria","Fatima Thalia Munabirul","Mona-Allea Matolo"],"date":"2022-08-16","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.6997420","id":501,"issue":8,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"ba983fabbe5a99160e3dbadcd278f0011490598419b0fead9c4d5efc60c6143d","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Self-Learning Module: Involvement of Parents and the Academic Performance of their Children in the New Normal","volume":3}
