{"abstract":"The utilization of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in education has become a prominent topic, yet research into its benefits and challenges remains limited. This study investigated the perceptions, benefits, and challenges of 274 students at Saint Mary's University Senior High School (SMUSHS) regarding GenAI use. Employing a descriptive-comparative design with quantitative (Likert scale) and qualitative (open-ended question) methods, the study found that students positively perceive GenAI as a tool that enhances learning outcomes. However, students perceived significantly higher levels of challenges than benefits. The frequency of GenAI usage significantly influenced students' perceptions and perceived benefits, while academic standing played a major role in shaping perceived challenges. For GenAI integration, most respondents suggested implementing restrictions, limitations, and strengthening AI policies to prevent over-reliance on AI for academic work.
