{"abstract":"This research investigated the learning motivation and strategy use of 30 private secondary students in Mattayom 1 (grade 7) under the English Programme at a school in Phuket, Thailand, using the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). Data analysis via multiple regression revealed low-level projections on MSLQ scales, indicating struggles with motivation and learning strategies, thus necessitating intervention. While most respondents achieved knowledge and skills in learning objectives, a substantial number required further assistance to enhance Mathematics mastery. Similarly, most performed above average in Mathematics, but a considerable number needed facilitation to improve performance. The study found no significant relationship between respondents' sex, age, or nationality and academic success in Mathematics performance. No significant relationship was observed between age and sex and motivated strategies for learning Mathematics. However, a significant relationship was found between nationality and motivated strategies for learning Mathematics. No significant correlation was found between Motivated Strategies for Learning Mathematics and Mathematics Performance, but a significant correlation existed between the level of motivation and learning strategies. The study emphasizes the need for an intervention program to improve students' motivation and effective learning strategies to enhance academic performance in Mathematics, with MSLQ proving useful for identifying intervention areas.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Josel Buscano"],"date":"2025-03-16","doi":"10.70838/pemj.330707","id":4685,"issue":7,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"2cacbcef3fdfbc17c4a1c935fe0ec253e2ec99aed0e9eedbf1cca4e6af212b79","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Motivated Strategies for Learning Mathematics and Academic Success among Secondary Students, Kajonkietsuksa School, Phuket, Thailand","volume":33}
