{"abstract":"This study investigated the frequency of parental support—monitoring, volunteering, involvement, progress, and extra help—for Grade 5 pupils in Science, and its influence on academic performance. A vernacular-translated questionnaire was used to assess parental support, and pupils’ grades were retrieved with parental consent. Statistical tools included frequency count, weighted mean, and Chi-square test. Findings showed that “extra help” (e.g., finding materials like Wi-Fi) was the most frequent support, with a count of 91. Parental support for “progress” was sometimes done (mean 3.12), while “monitoring” (4.02), “volunteering” (4.16), “involvement” (4.01), and “extra help” (4.03) were often done. Grade 5 pupils achieved a very satisfactory academic performance in Science, with an average of 4.19. A significant relationship was found between academic performance and parental support in “monitoring” (p-value 0.001) and “extra help” (p-value 0.003), both less than the 0.005 significance level. However, “volunteering” (0.171), “progress” (0.740), and “involvement” (0.680) showed no significant influence. The study suggests that parents should continue providing monitoring and extra help, as these significantly contribute to pupils’ very satisfactory grades.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Cry Mariza Malagum"],"date":"2025-03-15","doi":"10.70838/pemj.330510","id":4650,"issue":5,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"24949a821ec26534c106e87e20ec09dcbb72fcaff4cb386b1aa2653518ed05fb","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Parents’ Support and Academic Performance on Printed Modular Distance Learning in Science Subject in an Elementary Education Context","volume":33}
