{"abstract":"This study investigates how digital world connections influence college students’ reading practices, particularly as they transition from printed texts to digital technologies. Using a descriptive causal research design with a quantitative approach, 371 college students were selected via quota sampling to answer a self-made survey questionnaire on their level of digital world connection and reading practices. Data were interpreted using frequency count percentage and standard mean deviation, while relationships were analyzed using simple linear regression. Results showed an overall mean score of 3.83 for the students' high level of digital world connection, encompassing digital literacy skills, use of digital resources for academics, social media use, and online academic collaborations. The overall mean score for reading practices was 3.77, also indicating a high level in terms of reading frequency, diversity of reading resources, reading engagement and motivation, and access and utilization of learning resources. However, simple linear regression analysis, with a sig-value of .540 (higher than the .05 significance level), indicated that digital world connection does not influence college students’ reading practices. Based on these findings, it is recommended that academic librarians implement strategies to make digital resources effective motivators for students to improve reading practices, habits, and attitudes.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Catherine Arapoc","Maria Lorena Abangan"],"date":"2025-03-13","doi":"10.70838/pemj.330503","id":4643,"issue":5,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"89286a882c212d49e2094a6b21c9be58fe2a85889e797ca4660b2390c869cd34","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"The Digital World Connection and Reading Practices of College Students","volume":33}
