{"abstract":"This study investigated the relationship between student engagement and academic performance among 119 Grade 11 students at Buenavista Integrated School in Zamboanga City, Philippines, for the school year 2024-2025. Employing a descriptive-correlational research design, the study utilized adapted survey questionnaires and school records to assess engagement and academic performance, respectively. Results revealed high levels of student engagement, particularly in areas related to family support and perceived educational value. Academic performance was categorized as \"Satisfactory\" with a mean score of 84.13. Surprisingly, statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between student engagement and academic performance (p-value = .179, R value = .124). These findings challenge conventional understanding of the engagement-performance relationship, suggesting that other factors such as teaching methods, student motivation, home environment, and individual study habits may play more substantial roles in determining academic outcomes. The study emphasizes the complexity of academic success and underscores the need for a multifaceted approach to improving student achievement that considers various influencing factors beyond engagement alone.
