{"abstract":"This research aimed to determine teachers' and students' readiness for blended learning, as well as the struggles and best practices of teachers in blended learning modalities. An adopted but modified survey instrument was used to assess readiness levels, and an open-ended questionnaire was employed to determine personal experiential accounts of challenges, difficulties, breakthroughs, and good practices. Data revealed that mobile phones were the most available gadget among respondents, while desktop computers were the least available. The level of readiness among teachers and students was generally high, with online learning being the only dimension among the six readiness dimensions to score low for both groups. Teachers' most common difficulties included unstable internet connectivity, insufficient preparation time for learning materials, captivating students' focus in learning, and addressing individual learners' needs. Their most common worst experiences were online engagement thru chats, teaching problem-solving skills online, unavailability of materials for experiments, and academic dishonesty. In response, all teachers looked for better internet service providers, trained themselves to record video lessons using online resources or departmental tutorials, used alternative household materials for experiments, and maintained consistent interaction via messenger, text, and email. The best practices deemed worth sustaining were the preparation of pre-recorded video lessons and the extensive use of SMU LMS features. Finally, recommendations toward an enhanced blended learning approach thru SMLP features in teaching and learning science were provided.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Elsa Cajucom","Ivy Lopez","Jimmy Valdez","Julieta Villanueva","Weyalein Balonquita","Judy Ann Sonday"],"date":"2022-07-24","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.6894382","id":438,"issue":3,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"737d5d128e1ff5c9101a3590b83a96556864548f16e605f5360680fbbb39f178","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Readiness in Adopting a Blended Learning Approach in Science: Challenges Encountered and Breakthroughs","volume":3}
