{"abstract":"This descriptive study investigated the leadership practices of Department Heads and the engagement of Junior High School (JHS) teachers in selected private schools in Gumaca, Quezon, to inform a professional development program. JHS teachers participated, and data were collected using a questionnaire. The study found that department heads' leadership practices were excellent across innovative, charismatic, and command and control leadership styles. Innovative leaders demonstrated abilities to drive innovation, charismatic leaders seized new opportunities, and command and control leaders applied their approach across all enterprise subsets, functions, organizational levels, and strategic or tactical activities. These leadership practices had an excellent impact on teachers' engagement and motivation, as observed in school performance, particularly in unity of purpose, collegial support, and professional development. Teachers understood the school's mission, received collegial help, and regularly sought professional development. Generally, no significant relationship was found between leadership practices and their overall impact on teachers' engagement and motivation. However, each leadership practice showed a significant relationship with at least one but at most five of the teachers' engagement indicators.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Kristine Joy Bulan","Melchor Espiritu"],"date":"2024-11-05","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.14035160","id":3907,"issue":6,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"3ec9edecc8119b558ee947412f64c96351e2556b8d068b26af9e9fbcc3352296","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Leadership Practices of Department Heads and Teachers Engagement of JHS Teachers in Selected Private School in Gumaca, Quezon: Basis for Professional Development Program","volume":27}
