{"abstract":"This study investigated the effects of Parent-Teacher Consultation (PTC) on parental roles and outcomes among Learners at-Risk at Nagpayong High School during the 2021-2022 school year. Using a mixed-method approach with questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, the study involved section advisers, at-risk learners, and their parents. Teachers initiated PTCs via distance communication, face-to-face meetings, and other means, implementing various interventions. Findings indicated positive effects of PTC on parental roles, with parents modeling positive attitudes, monitoring, academic involvement, school collaboration, and learner motivation. However, leniency was observed, as parents allowed children to skip classes and play mobile games, and reward-giving was not highly practiced. Students attributed poor performance to home-related factors, lack of resources, leisure as distraction, and learning behavior/attitude, believing PTC affected their feelings, actions, and parent relationships. Teachers faced challenges in PTC due to home-related factors, lack of interest, lack of resources, and dishonesty. Positive effects of PTC included parents’ active participation, realization of needs, consistent monitoring, learners’ active participation, understanding of rules, strengthened communication and relationships, positive parent responses, and increased passing rates. Negative effects included too much consideration, habitual actions, low quality of learners, and blaming teachers. Recommendations were made for teacher involvement, school administration support, and parent motivation.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Evelyn Lopez","Melannie Nanteza"],"date":"2024-11-07","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.14050028","id":3902,"issue":7,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"a4c412d4855b9531fedb1b17ed5ab68df143b6a5f3ab568ab6ab5dea64e5b75c","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Parent-Teacher Consultation for Learners At-Risk: Its Effect to the Roles of Parents and Learners’ Outcomes","volume":27}
