{"abstract":"This descriptive-correlational study, conducted at Laubach Institute during S.Y. 2023-2024, investigated the mindset towards mathematics and behavioral engagement among 141 junior high school students using survey questionnaires and open-ended interviews. Data were analyzed using means, standard deviation, and Pearson r correlation at a 0.05 significance level. Findings showed an overall mean of 2.40 for a fixed mindset, rated as \"disagree,\" with Grade 9 having the highest mean (2.47) and Grade 7 the lowest (2.28). For a growth mindset, the overall mean was 3.07, rated as \"agree,\" with Grade 8 having the highest mean (3.14) and Grade 9 the lowest (2.96). In behavioral engagement, Grade 7 showed the highest mean for attendance (3.41, \"sometimes\") and attention (3.04), while Grade 9 had the lowest for both (3.00 and 2.91, respectively). Grade 10 had the highest participation mean (2.81), and Grade 7 the lowest (2.69). Grade 8 had the highest compliance mean (2.93), and Grade 10 the lowest (2.75). A significant correlation was found between growth mindset and behavioral engagement for Grade 7 students in participation (r=0.351, p=0.00, \"Low Positive\") and compliance (r=0.566, p=0.00, \"Moderately Positive\"). Grades 8, 9, and 10 showed no significant correlation (p>0.05) for these aspects, suggesting a positive influence of growth mindsets on behavioral engagement domains for younger students.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Saharah Balabagan","Normillah Balowa","Samirah Balowa","Irma Gumacap","Nadia Sanguila","Karen Gay Dy"],"date":"2024-08-13","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.13310488","id":3412,"issue":7,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"2f39ba1d8f440d251b20eb5b9bd9cfaaff42e6c8c63d1a452d6b041a549bd51b","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Mindset Types and Behavioral Engagement towards Mathematics among Junior High School Students in Laubach Institute","volume":23}
